Your Child’s First Dental Visit

Setting the Stage for a Lifetime of Healthy Smiles

The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and the American Academy of Pediatrics recommend that children see a dentist by their first birthday—or within six months after their first tooth erupts ( become visible in the mouth). This early visit helps us build a relationship with your family, identify habits that could impact future dental health, and create a safe and comforting Dental Home for your child.

A positive experience from the start goes a long way. Early dental visits help establish trust and build healthy habits that last a lifetime.

Preparing Your Child for Their First Visit

If your child is already speaking before their first appointment, a little preparation can make a big difference. We encourage you to talk positively about the upcoming visit. Let your child know that the dentist and our friendly team are here to explain everything, answer questions, and make sure there are no surprises.

You might say: “The dentist will count your teeth, brush them gently, and paint them to keep them strong!”

Your calm, upbeat tone will go a long way in shaping their perception. Avoid words like “pain,” “needle,” or “drill”—our team uses kid-friendly, reassuring language to make every step feel safe and comfortable.
