Minimally Invasive Pediatric Dentistry

At Bright Healthy Smiles, we believe that less is often more—especially when it comes to treating cavities in young children. That’s why we offer minimally invasive, drill-free techniques like Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF) and Curadont, designed to stop decay in its tracks while keeping your child comfortable and calm.

Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF)

SDF is a liquid solution made up of silver, a powerful antibacterial agent, and fluoride, which helps to remineralize and strengthen the tooth. It’s painted directly onto areas of early decay to safely kill cavity-causing bacteria—without the need for traditional drilling or numbing. Although SDF has been widely used in countries like Japan and Australia for years, it gained attention in the U.S. following a 2016 New York Times feature and is now FDA-approved for clinical use.

While SDF may darken the treated area, we often follow it with a glass ionomer restoration—a tooth-colored, fluoride-releasing material that helps mask discoloration and adds another layer of protection.

Curodont

In addition to SDF, we also offer Curodont, an innovative treatment that harnesses the power of monomeric peptides to support the natural regeneration of tooth tissue. Unlike SDF, Curodont doesn’t cause discoloration, making it a great option for visible teeth. It works by binding to the weakened enamel, promoting remineralization and allowing the tooth to heal without drilling. Curodont is particularly helpful for treating early lesions and monitoring them over time as part of a comprehensive caries management plan.

A Personalized Approach for Every Smile

Not every child—or every tooth—is the same. That’s why our pediatric dentists carefully evaluate each case to determine the best treatment option. Minimally invasive techniques like SDF and Curadont are especially beneficial for young children, children with special healthcare needs, or those who are anxious about dental visits.

We’ll always walk you through all available options and tailor the plan to meet your child’s individual needs. Our goal is to preserve your child’s natural tooth structure while creating a stress-free, positive dental experience.
